Latin American Women’s Aid (LAWA) is calling on everyone taking part in any London Marathon Events to dedicate their efforts to a cause that saves lives. By setting up a fundraising page through the official Enthuse platform, they can turn their achievements into direct support for women and children escaping gender-based violence.
The process is simple. In just a few clicks, anyone with a place in a London Marathon Event can create a page and start fundraising. LAWA is on hand to help guide supporters through the set-up if needed.
The impact of these efforts is clear. Earlier this year, Maria Carolina took on a fight of a different kind when she stepped into the boxing ring with the “White Collar Fight Club”. Her challenge raised over £1,400 for LAWA, surpassing her target.
“Their services are lifesaving”, she said. “In times when violence against women is a declared national emergency, I wanted to turn my strength into support for the community”.
Funds raised through challenges like these sustain LAWA’s by-and-for services. The organisation runs four refuges and provides counselling, immigration advice, legal support and safe accommodation. In 2023 alone, LAWA supported 1,713 women, including 93 who found safety in its refuges.
“All contributions make a difference”, says Paula Hernandez Quijano, Development Manager at LAWA. “Every pound raised helps us keep our services going, whether that means maintaining safe refuge spaces, providing counselling, or giving women access to legal and immigration advice. When people dedicate their efforts to us, they’re directly supporting women and children to rebuild their lives.”
Anyone can take part. Anyone can make a difference: if you have a spot in any London Marathon Event, please get in touch with us at [email protected] and turn your challenge into a lifeline!
